12 Most Romantic Harry Potter Love Quotes From The Movies

The following Harry Potter quotes about love show the enduring power of newfound love, familial love, and the power of love as the strongest “magic” there is.

So, without further ado, here are some of the best Harry Potter love quotes.

1. “The ones that love us never really leave us. You can always find them in here.”

Said by: Sirius Black

From: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

When Harry finds out Sirius didn’t kill his father but was instead his father’s best friend. He wants to escape with him and live together to learn more about his father and have a father figure in his life (sort of like running away to live with your cool Uncle).

But Sirius rightfully tells Harry his job is to stay in school. He offers this quote as a consolation, both to help Harry understand that our loved ones are with us even when we’re not together and to help him cope with the death of his parents.

2. “It’s no joke! I’m in love with her!” “Alright, fine, you’re in love with her. Have you ever actually met her?”

Said by: Ron Weasley and Harry Potter

From: Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince

When Ron accidentally eats chocolates meant for Harry and gets love-potioned by Romilda Vane, he becomes obsessively infatuated with her.

When Harry tries to reason with him, Ron gets defensive and shouts that he’s not joking and is truly in love with her.

3. “What do I care how he looks? I am good-looking enough for both of us.”

Said by: Fleur Delacour

From: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Pt 1)

While this line doesn’t appear in the film, in the above clip, Harry meets Ron’s brother Bill for the first time and realizes he’s been attacked by the werewolf Greyback. His fiancé, Fleur Delacour, says that he “still looks beautiful to me”, which is an homage to the above quote.

Given the more serious context of the scene, it probably wouldn’t be appropriate for Fleur to say the line.

In the original context, she is defending her love for her future husband against her future mother-in-law, Molly Weasley, so it’s a much more emotionally charged moment.

4. “Now Amortentia doesn’t create actual love, that would be impossible, but it does create a powerful infatuation or obsession. For that reason, it is probably the most dangerous and powerful potion in this room.”

Said by: Horace Slughorn

From: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Professor Horace Slughorn tells this to his potions class when introducing the Amortentia love potion. While the line is slightly different from the book and the movie, the idea is the same:

Professor Slughorn: Amortentia doesn’t really create love, of course. It is impossible to manufacture or imitate love. No, this will simply cause a powerful infatuation or obsession. It is probably the most dangerous and powerful potion in this room — oh yes… When you have seen as much of life as I have, you will not underestimate the power of obsessive love”

As we saw the potion’s impact on Ron in the previous scene, we know Horace to be spot on with this one.

5. “Love as powerful as your mother’s for you, leaves its own mark…To have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever.”

Said by: Albus Dumbledore

From: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

After Harry inexplicably defeats Voldemort and Professor Quirrell at the end of the first movie, Dumbledore visits Harry in the hospital. He explains his mother’s protection to Harry and that her final sacrifice for him has left him with a powerful protective magic shield that prevents Voldemort from piercing it.

It’s both an actual spell and a metaphor for the power of familial love that binds and endures even beyond death.

6. “And I heard it. A voice. Your voice, Hermione. You said my name… and I knew it was going to take me where I needed to go.”

Said by: Ron Weasley

From: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1)

Ron tells this story to Hermione and Harry after he rejoins them in the woods. A tiny ball of light led him back to them.

He doesn’t realize what he’s saying at first, but as he continues, it’s clear that his love for Hermione led him back to his two best friends. How romantic! Here’s the full quote:

7. “Have you seen Luna? I’m mad for her. I think it’s about time I told her since we’ll probably both be dead by dawn.”

Said by: Neville Longbottom

From: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2)

Throughout the series, Neville Longbottom grows up from a timid boy into a brave leader in his own right, mirroring Harry Potter’s arc.

Based on Professor Trelawney’s prophecy, the story could have just as easily been about Neville as it was about Harry–it just happened Voldemort went for Harry first.

Well, Neville was fired up during the battle of Hogwarts, and it’s now for Neville—excuse me, never—to tell her how he feels. After all, why not tell your crush you love them when you can also “spit fire“?

8. “Oh, to be young and feel love’s keen sting.”

Said by: Albus Dumbledore

From: Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince

Albus Dumbledore says this after observing a bitter row between Hermione and Lavender Brown over who is best fit to attend Ron Weasley’s hospital bedside.

After Ron whispers “Hermione” in his sleep, Lavender runs off crying – and Dumbledore can’t help but comment before inferring to the teachers that “Mr. Weasley is well-tended” with Hermione holding his hand.

9. “Dumbledore would have been happier than anybody to think that there was a little more love in the world.”

Said by: Professor McGonagall

From: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

While this line doesn’t appear in the movie, it’s from a scene at the end of The Half-Blood Prince where McGonagall reminds everyone that even in times of loss and sorrow, it is important for life to move on and that Dumbledore, most of all would want to know there’s more love in the world.

In tribute to the missing scene, the above clip features McGonagall expressing her condolences to Harry to remind him that Dumbledore cared deeply for him… but Harry is too hurt to respond in kind.

10. “We never left.” “You’ll stay with me?” “Until the very end.”

Said by: James and Lilly Potter

From: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2)

Harry Potter, unfortunately, never gets to meet his parents after they are killed by Voldemort when he is a baby, but what Harry learns throughout the series is that his parents, even in their deaths, are always with him.

When he summons them with the resurrection stone right before he goes to face his death by Voldemort in the forest, he realizes that they’ve been with him all along.

So it’s a beautiful scene when his parents tell him they’ve always been with him and will stay with him until the end. It gives him the strength to do what they did for him but for his friends and family – sacrifice. Now that’s powerful love right there!

11. “Always.”

Said by: Severus Snape

From: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2)

Professor Severus Snape seemingly antagonizes Harry every step of his six years at Hogwarts, so it’s a surprise when Snape shares his memories with Harry while at death’s door, and Harry realizes that Snape was always looking out for him.

It turns out Snape was secretly in love with his mother, Lilly, since he was a boy, and his love for her endured throughout his time as a death eater under Voldemort and when he is called again to serve the dark side.

But Snape was a double agent. He helped Dumbledore aid Harry in defeating Voldemort because he “always” loved Lilly.

12. “Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love.”

Said by: Albus Dumbledore

From: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2)

After Harry sacrifices himself to help his friends defeat Voldemort, he finds himself in a purgatory version of Platform 9 and 3/4, where he meets Dumbledore, who shares a strange and wonderful realization: he was one of Voldemort’s seven Horcruxes. He can live to fight again if he so chooses.

When Harry seems reluctant to let Dumbledore go and return to the land of the living, Dumbledore shares this quote to inspire him.

Harry is rich in love; therefore, he can move forward with his life without pity for those who have lost instead of pity for those like Voldemort who live without love.

Love, after all, is what it’s all about.
